SoCal to see May gray weekend ahead of intense warmup next week

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A May gray weekend has arrived, but you might be thankful for the mild conditions before an intense warmup next week.

Expect cloudy conditions Saturday as a cold front moves in. Light precipitation is possible in some areas Saturday and early Sunday morning. The sun should start poking through the clouds by Sunday afternoon.

After the gloomy weekend, a dome of high pressure will start slowly moving across the region, bringing a big warmup throughout the week. Some areas will see temperatures over 100 degrees by mid-week.

On Saturday, Los Angeles and Orange counties can expect a high of 65 degrees and a low of 54. Enjoy the cool weather before temperatures warm back into the low 90s by mid-week.

The valleys and the Inland Empire Saturday will see a high of 65 degrees and a low of 52. The big warmup next week is expected to bring temperatures over 100 degrees by Wednesday.

Beaches Saturday will see a chance for a morning drizzle amid a high of 61. Expect temperatures to rise to the high 70s by mid-week.

The mountains Saturday will have a high of 59 and a low of 34, with a 10% chance for light showers Saturday and Sunday.

Deserts Saturday can expect a high of 70 degrees with wind gusts as strong as 45 mph.
