DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after a frightening rock-throwing incident on the 110 Freeway near downtown Los Angeles.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Thursday on northbound lanes of the freeway, just south of the 10 Freeway.

Video captured a man, who appears to be homeless, picking up rocks and throwing them onto the freeway lanes from the shoulder near 23rd Street. A motorcyclist appeared to hit a big rock after it was thrown, causing him to lose control crash, and slide down the road.

Footage shows the motorcycle skidding across the roadway as sparks flew. Moments later, the motorcyclist managed to get up and walk away.

At least two other cars were spotted in the same area with apparent flat tires because of the rocks on the road. One of those drivers had just got into town from LAX and was in a rental car.

The photographer who took the video, Scott Lane with OnScene.TV, says he saw the rock-thrower walk away eastbound on 23rd Street near Figueroa.

"Motorcyclist didn't want to talk on camera," Lane added. "I noticed he did have a GoPro on him. It wasn't rolling so we don't have the crash caught on camera from that angle. Luckily, he was OK."

Lane says he didn't call 911 but gave his footage to the California Highway Patrol. He says other drivers, including the motorcyclist, also didn't call police to report the incident.

The CHP says this isn't the first time that this has happened.

"That's where we have to put in the question of we got to have a victim. We hope he comes forward and we could take it from there," said Officer Roberto Gomez.

The suspect has not been found, but the agency says it is looking for him. They also say the motorcyclist hasn't reported the incident, but hope he comes forward.

No serious injuries were reported.
