WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A naked man who allegedly fired at officers was shot and killed by police at a motel in Woodland Hills overnight.

The incident unfolded around 10:05 p.m. Sunday at the Vantage Point Inn on Ventura Boulevard near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and the 101 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers responded to a call about a man with a gun at a motel.

"When officers arrived to the scene, they encountered the suspect who was armed with what they believed to be a weapon, or a rifle," said public information officer Bruce O'Borihanh.

Authorities say the man fired at officers and an exchange of gunfire ensued. The suspect, who has not been identified, tried to run away but eventually died from his injuries.

"Fire department and paramedics were at the scene to determine that the suspect was suffering from gunshot wounds and was deceased here at the scene," said O'Borihanh.

No officers were injured.

O'Borihanh said detectives still have video and physical evidence to collect and analyze, and witnesses and officers still need to be interviewed.
