Suspect dead, multiple injuries and deaths, including In-N-Out worker, reported after Idaho shooting

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (KABC) -- Police in Idaho confirmed there are fatalities and injuries after a report of an active shooter at an In-N-Out Burger location in Twin Falls on Saturday.

At a news conference Saturday evening, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks told reporters he could not provide an exact number of people killed or the number of people injured as authorities worked to notify next of kin.

The suspected shooter is also dead, Hicks said, and police believe there is no longer any threat to the community.

Police are still working to identify the suspected shooter and his motivation, Hicks said.

Multiple people were taken to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center, he said.

"Multiple individuals have been transported to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center. Tragically, there have been fatalities," an update from the Twin Falls Police Department read. "We are currently working to notify next of kin, and additional details will be released when appropriate."

In-N-Out's Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick issued the following statement: "We are heartbroken. Our prayers go out to our Customers, our Associates, and all of their families. We are working with the Twin Falls Police Department to assist in the on-going investigation."

In a later social media post, In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder confirmed that an In-N-Out worker is among the dead.

"She was taking care of our most important asset - our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn't value the lives of others or his own," Snyder wrote. "He shot both on our property and off, and ended his life shortly after he took the previous lives of our Associate and Customers, innocent people who never saw it coming."

Authorities said the In-N-Out restaurant had just opened this past week to big fanfare.

Police responded to a call for shots fired at the In-and-Out Burger on Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls at 2:29 p.m. on Saturday, according to police.

A large police presence from multiple agencies descended on the scene, Hicks said.

The restaurant is located near a busy shopping area, and Hicks said there were potentially hundreds of people nearby, calling it an "exceptionally chaotic scene."

The area around the In-N-Out and the Twin Falls Visitor Center remained closed while authorities continued processing the scene, police said.

Police were still interviewing witnesses and asked anyone with information to come forward, Hicks said.

The FBI said it was aware of the situation and offering assistance to local law enforcement, according to an agency spokesman.

In a statement on social media, Idaho Gov. Brad Little asked for prayers "as law enforcement and first responders respond to an active shooter situation near In-N-Out."

Twin Falls is a city of more than 56,000 people about 128 miles southeast of Boise.
