The city of Los Angeles is working on a licensing process to allow marijuana cultivators to operate legally in the city.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The city of Los Angeles is moving closer to licensing for pot growers.

Officials Tuesday announced plans to kick off the process on Aug. 1.

But it's likely to be many months before cultivators and manufacturers can open for business.

Cannabis was legalized in California more than six months ago.

The city has moved cautiously with licensing.

Roughly 150 retailers have opened while the rest of the supply chain remains on hold.
