CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people died and one person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Friday morning after a multiple-car crash on the northbound 405 Freeway in Carson.
Authorities received a call shortly before 1 a.m. on reports of a traffic collision near Wilmington Avenue on the freeway.
A white Toyota Pruis crashed into a pickup truck on the freeway, causing both to end up in the carpool lane with debris strewn across all of the lanes. Two passengers in the pickup truck ended up getting out of the car and an Uber driver pulled over as his passenger got out to help, authorities said.
The driver of a Toyota Camry - who was driving at freeway speeds - came upon the accident, swerved to try and get out of the way, but ended up hitting the two passengers and the Good Samaritan.
When officers arrived, the three men in their 20s and 30s were pronounced dead at the scene. The Pruis driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
All lanes on the northbound side of the freeway were closed just past Wilmington until shortly before 6 a.m.
The incident was under investigation.
