IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people were killed and five others injured in a traffic accident on the northbound 5 Freeway in Irvine Thursday.
Authorities responded to the five-vehicle collision near the Jamboree Road exit at 4:41 a.m. A woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s were declared dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.
Five other people were injured in the crash. Three people were transported to Western Medical Santa Ana with moderate injuries, while two had minor injuries.
According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the vehicles involved include a small Toyota, an Astro van and three other vehicles. Both fatalities were from the Toyota.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. Several lanes of the 5 Freeway were blocked for several hours due to the accident investigation. All lanes reopened around 9 a.m.
