PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Thousands of bicyclists, skateboarders, roller skaters and pedestrians are expected to hit the streets of Pasadena Sunday for the city's first ever CicLAvia event.
The car-free event, which began at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m., starts along Colorado Boulevard and connects to the Memorial Park and Del Mar Gold Line stations.
Jaime Ortiz created Ciclovia, which means "open roads," in Bogota, Colombia to bring attention to car pollution and promote healthy living. The event gives participants a chance to see the city at a different pace.
"You don't need to have a bike, you can come down and walk, and this is a really great route to walk. Colorado is just so beautiful -- the architecture, the history, the culture, the stores, the restaurants, the coffee shops, so there's lots to do. There's cultural activities as well," said CicLAvia co-founder Aaron Paley.
The following streets will remain closed until 4 p.m.:
Cars can cross the routes at designated major intersections. Pasadena police, traffic controllers and CicLAvia volunteers will be at car-crossing points to help with the flow of traffic.
