The 35-year-old was arrested Sunday after shots rang out outside Rihanna's Beverly Glen property. Investigators say the gunfire came from a car across the street from the singer's mansion.
Rihanna was at home, but nobody was hurt.
Rihanna's LA area mansion struck by gunfire, woman arrested, police say
Multiple shots were fired at the residence, but none penetrated the inside of her home, only the exterior, sources said. Multiple rounds did hit the outside of the home, though, as well as a vehicle parked out front.
Video from the scene showed bullet holes covered with tape on the home's front gate.
Sources said that the weapon allegedly used by Ortiz was an AR-style gun. At least two homes on the block had bullet holes.
In dispatch audio, officials are heard saying the suspect's Tesla was followed by an LAPD helicopter into a mall parking garage, where she was pulled over and detained by patrol units.
Investigators are trying to determine whether Ortiz knew if Rihanna lived at the home. The motive of the shooting remains under investigation, but law enforcement sources told ABC News that they are looking at all aspects of Ortiz' life, including her social media presence, to find answers.
Included in that is a rambling, talk to camera video, posted on Jan. 4, and many others like it on Ortiz' social media profiles.
In the Jan. 4 video, Ortiz is heard saying "Listen Rihanna, when you die God is taking me to my future.. yeah, she wants to kill me. Shut the [expletive] up."
On Monday, passing tour buses were full of people who seemed baffled by the violent crime.
"I don't know what gets into these people. I don't know why anyone would want to harm such a sweet person like Rihanna," said tour guide Gavin.
Rihanna shares three children with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. It's unclear if A$AP Rocky and the children were home at the time of the shooting.
