Teens 'Skittling' with red cold tablets

February 7, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
A new warning for parents -- there's evidence that an increasing number of teens are getting high from over-the-counter red cold tablets. One of the active ingredients in the product is dextromethorphan, or DMX. Taken in high enough doses, DMX can cause blurry vision, slurred speech and disorientation.

Some teens call the experience "Skittling". It seems they replace the red Skittles candy with red cold tablets containing DMX and gobble them down.
