Officials considers clean truck plan

Trucking companies may soon have to hire drivers at the port of L.A. as employees, rather than independent contractors.The L.A. Harbor Commission will consider the proposal at its meeting Thursday morning.

The plan, which is part of the port's clean truck program, would increase drivers' incomes and ensure companies meet environmental and safety standards.

However, the port of L.A. and Long Beach are split on the issue.

Last month, the port of Long Beach approved a plan that allows truckers to remain independent. The California Trucking Association is also against the plan.
