Ginkgo may protect against stroke damage

Researchers gave mice daily doses of the extract, then induced a stroke. The mice suffered about half the brain damage as mice that didn't get gingko.

Researchers also gave the extract to mice after they had a stroke, and the sooner they got it, the less damage they suffered.

Gingko works by boosting an enzyme that acts as an antioxidant to protect against cell damage.
