High dose of flu vaccine protects elderly

October 27, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
New research shows higher doses of the flu vaccine may benefit the elderly more than the regular dose. A research team at the University of Rochester gave study participants 65 and older four times the usual amount of the vaccine.

Doctors found their bodies produced more antibodies, making them less susceptible to infection.

Researchers say the goal is to increase immune response in older adults because they are at a higher risk for becoming seriously ill or dying from the flu.
