George Lopez gets word out on kidneys

STUDIO CITY The actor and his wife were in Studio City Thursday morning. The National Kidney Foundation held its annual Kidney Early Evaluation Program.

There were some familiar faces from daytime television on hand that went to be tested.

The event is aimed at raising awareness about the disease and, if necessary, how to treat it to stay healthy.

"I'm a kidney recipient, almost four years, so my life's mission is to keep people healthy. We're doing screenings today. People can get checked. They get asked a few questions from some great doctors and know whether they're healthy and, if they are, God bless them. And if they're not, God bless them and we have ways for them to get healthy," said Lopez.

George says 26 million people in the U.S. are affected by kidney disease. He and his wife, Ann, are the foundation's spokespeople.
