Library hours to change next week

LOS ANGELES This is the last week before reduced hours take effect at all city branches.

Library commissioners say the shorter hours are because of staff reductions due to a citywide early retirement program, combined with a hiring freeze during L.A.'s budget crisis.

All city libraries will now be closed on Sundays and starting next week branches will close at 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
