The crash occurred just north of /*Melrose*/ Avenue at around 2:15 a.m. Authorities said a second person was injured in the crash as well.
One of the two patients was reported in critical condition en route to a hospital, said /*CHP*/ officials.
Two southbound lanes of the /*101 Freeway*/ was closed as police investigated the scene.
