San Fernando Valley sex assault suspect turns himself in

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man suspected of sexually assaulting six victims across the San Fernando Valley has turned himself in.

The Los Angeles Police Department put out a notice they were searching for 29-year-old Damian Denzell Robinson, who is known sex offender. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Thursday morning that he turned himself in at the Lancaster station and is now in custody.

Detective Rogelio Dela Cruz with the LAPD said it was both a relief and a surprise when authorities learned Robinson turned himself in.

"I think based on some social media that was circulating by the victims that he knew that he was wanted."

The alleged assaults all happened within the span of six hours on April 19. Cruz said the victims included women up to 70 years old and a juvenile who is believed to be six years old.

It started around 9:10 a.m. Sunday when the suspect approached an elderly woman at a business near Devonshire Street and Balboa Boulevard. The LAPD says he pulled down her pants, grabbed her and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.

A similar situation happened to another elderly woman near Forbes Avenue and Calahan Street some 45 minutes after that. That woman was able to hold her waistband up and confront the suspect, police said.

The suspect fled, but just five minutes later, a woman walking near Lassen Street and Encino Avenue was grabbed from behind and filmed with the suspect's cellphone.

At 11:15 a.m., a fourth victim inside a food market on Vanowen Street and Corbin Avenue was approached from behind and assaulted.

At 12:37 p.m., at a different food market near Mason Avenue and Sherman Way, the suspect pulled down the pants and underwear of another woman and recorded the victim on his cellphone.

The sixth incident happened at 3:20 p.m. in the restroom of a retail store near Corbin Avenue and Nordoff Street. The suspect allegedly recorded the woman from underneath the bathroom stall with his phone.

"I've been with the department for 20 years and this is the first time I've seen this many in a single day by a perpetrator," Cruz added.

According to the LAPD, Robinson has a prior conviction for indecent exposure and lewd conduct.

Police believe there may be more victims, and they are asking them to come forward.
