For the creators of these comic strip classics, the honor is something they never could have imagined.
"I was hoping to do a comic strip that became successful enough so that I didn't have to do anything else for a living," said Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield.
The next release from the post office will be on July 27, when Boy Scout stamps go on sale.
