Morning headlines - August 2

It's still unknown how many people died when a large plane crashed at Denali National Park in Alaska. Crews say the plane burst into a fireball which sparked a forest fire yesterday afternoon. First responders are also working to find out who owns the aircraft.

Crews are gaining the upper hand on a wildfire north of Los Angeles and hope to have it fully contained by tonight. The fire in Palmdale is now 87% contained after burning 22 acres. Meanwhile, higher humidity and lower temperatures have helped firefighters knock down a wildfire which sparked last week in the Antelope Valley.

It's the first day on the job today for new Toledo Public Schools superintendent Dr. Jerome Pecko. He replaces retired superintendent John Foley. Dr. Pecko's contract with the district includes performance goals such as getting a levy passed.

It's was finger licking good time in downtown Toledo over the weekend for the Smoke on the Water - Ribs for the Red Cross event. Yesterday, Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, 13abc's Tony Geftos and Andi McKay served as guest judges for the rib competition. In the end Doo Little's" from Lambertville, Michigan took top honors based on the ribs' appearance, tenderness, taste and sauce. Proceeds from the three day event go to the Toledo Chapter of the American Red Cross

Nitty's Barber Shop on Bancroft near Upton caught fire early this morning. Crews believe it is a suspicious fire. Call Crime Stopper at 419-255-1111 if you know anything about either fire.

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan was released from jail in Los Angeles. The 24-year-old was discharged at about 1:35 a.m. after serving 14 days of a 90 day sentence. She's not actually free. She now must go to an inpatient rehab program for a full 90 days.
