New watering schedule for L.A. released

LOS ANGELES The new plan will let /*Department of Water and Power*/ customers turn on their sprinklers three days a week.

Customers whose street addresses end with an odd number will be permitted to use their sprinkler systems on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Customers whose addresses end in zero or even numbers will be permitted to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Watering hours are before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

Addresses ending in fractions will be treated as whole numbers and observe the same day restrictions as others on their same side of the street.

The guidelines are part of an amendment to the city's Emergency Water Conservation Ordinance, which was put into place because of the ongoing drought.

Officials said since the DWP imposed mandatory water conservation requirements in June 2009, customers have reduced their water use by 20 percent.
