BOYLE HEIGHTS, Calif. The backup started on the street on the 3000 block of East Whittier Boulevard and quickly filled several businesses with up to six inches of raw sewage.

The owner of the building called in some plumbers, who teamed up with firefighters to get the flooding under control.

A clothing store and a shoe store were among the businesses damaged.
