LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - It's the whole enchilada -- and a really big one, too. But New Mexico restaurant owner Roberto Estrada says he should still hold part of the Guinness record for the world's largest enchilada. A Mexico City (Iztapalapa) community was recently awarded the Guinness enchilada record. Estrada says his three-layered, flat enchilada is the largest flat enchilada, and the enchilada made in Mexico is the largest rolled one. But a Guinness World Records says there's only one record for enchiladas. Estrada's flat enchilada was 10 and a-half feet around. The Mexico City-rolled enchilada was 230-feet long.
MACAU-EXPENSIVE TRUFFLE
MACAU (AP) - It's no trifle of a truffle. A Macau casino mogul has bid 330-grand
for a pair of Italian white truffles. Billionaire Stanley Ho made the winning
bid over the weekend at a charity auction. The bid matches the record price he
paid at the same event three years ago for one of the giant fungi. Ho is best
known for his casinos in Macau, a gambling enclave in southern China near Hong
Kong. Slivers of truffles are prized for flavoring pasta sauces and rice dishes.
DOG PARK CRACKDOWN
FOSTER CITY, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California dog park is -- well -- going to
the dogs. Officials in Foster City are considering a crackdown on dog owners. It
seems some folks are complaining that people are bringing too many dogs to the
dog park. The city's Parks and Recreation Committee is expected to vote this
week on a recommendation for the City Council. A proposed ordinance would limit
pet owners to three pooches apiece in the dog park. The San Mateo County Times
reports some of the dog owners have gotten into arguments that have turned
physical.
CAMEL AT COLLEGE
CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Caesar the camel is paying for college. New Mexico State
University student Edwin Snell is putting himself through school with Caesar's
help. Snell has owned the camel for 11 years. While he was home for
Thanksgiving, Snell was giving $5 rides on Caesar. About 150 people, kids and
adults, took a turn around a parking lot riding between Caesar's humps. Snell
says Caesar is kind of like a big dog. He adds sometimes he'll ride his camel up
to the drive-through window at fast food restaurants.
PROFESSOR-DORM LIFE
HOUSTON (AP) - Raul Ramos is getting used to dorm life at the University of
Houston. But he's not a student. Ramos is an associate professor of history. He
lives in a new dorm for freshmen, with his wife and their two sons. It's part of
a program to help ease students into campus life and encourage interaction with
faculty members. Ramos tells the Houston Chronicle it's the first time he's
lived in a dorm in more than two decades.
JUST FOR MEN
HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - It's just the place to outfit your man cave. The Just for
Men consignment shop has snow blowers, golf clubs and turkey fryers. You'll also
find pool tables, slot machines and even an original Roy Rogers yo-yo. The place
in Howell, Michigan, was opened about a year ago by Jim Schemer and his wife,
Lorin Meier-Schemer. While the name says Just For Men, the Schemers say some of
their clients are women. They tell a local paper (Livingston County Daily Press
& Argus) their female patrons often are trying to unload stuff that belonged to
their ex's.
