Student sues UCLA, attacker in stabbing case

December 8, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
A University of California, Los Angeles, student stabbed by a classmate during chemistry class is now suing the university and her attacker. Katherine Rosen said UCLA officials failed to warn students that Damon Thompson, 21, was potentially violent despite months of reports about his paranoid and threatening behavior.

Authorities said Thompson stabbed Rosen five times with a kitchen knife in October of 2009. She spent 10 days in the hospital.

Thompson was found not guilty by reason of insanity last month and sent to a mental hospital.

A UCLA spokesman said the school could not have predicted the attack and isn't liable.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
