Cool Kid raises money for families in Africa

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. "They're handmade by people in Malawi and they're signed on the inside and they're only $10. It's just amazing because $10 will buy Starbucks for a week or something, and for there it feeds a family for a month," said Rosen.

She founded the organization Lions for Africa at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano. They have raised more than $3,000 to feed body and mind.

"Not only just water and stuff, one of the things that Africa Bags does is give them an education. I think that's what a lot of people take for granted is that they get to go to school. To those kids, school is an honor for them," said Rosen.

She started the group herself, but very quickly found a way to inspire others to join the cause.

"I just tell them about my personal experience and why I wanted to do that. And them hearing what I'm saying, they're like, 'well, maybe I should give it a try and see what happens,'" said Rosen.

The 17-year-old high school junior is aware of the comforts of her world, but she wants to reach out to the rest of the world.

"I just really wanted to give back. I'm so fortunate for everything I have and so blessed. I think I should spread those blessings to others," said Rosen.

Doing what she can to help others far, far away makes Heather Rosen our /*Cool Kid*/.
