Officials said Donald Cotton was buying a pack of gum on Friday when he reached for the money in the cashier's drawer.
That's when the officer noticed what was happening, pulled his gun and ordered Cotton to stand down.
Cotton refused and began to fight with the officer.
The officer eventually placed Cotton under arrest.
Officials said that particular Walgreens clerk had been robbed by another person just hours before.
