Crews search for woman in Russian River

December 20, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
Authorities are searching for a woman from Agoura Hills who may have driven into the rain-swollen waters of the Russian River in Northern California over the weekend.Phyllis Bin, 62, was driving back to her hotel in Santa Rosa after dinner with friends at the Jenner restaurant on Saturday night. She was supposedly following her friends, but they told authorities that they lost her just south of Jenner.

Officials said the friends searched for her all night and reported her missing Sunday morning.

"With the water being chocolate brown it's really difficult to find it. You can't see, the visibility is zero. We had some divers in the water yesterday and you can't see anything," said Lt. Steve Brown of Sonoma County Sheriff's Dept.

Crews are concentrating on an area where tire tracks were seen off Highway 1, as well as an oil and gasoline sheen in the water below.
