Governor Jerry Brown's controversial pick for the State Board of Education has withdrawn from consideration for the job.Brown's appointment of former State Superintendent Bill Honig drew criticism because of Honig's criminal background.

Honig resigned as state superintendent of schools in 1993 after being convicted in a conflict-of-interest case.

Brown's office gave no reason for Honig's withdrawal.
