Seeing double, and triple, in Ida

IDA, MI Visiting Ida public schools these days is a bit disconcerting. Currently in this small rural school district of 1,600 students, there are 31 sets of multiples.

Everywhere you look there's a set of twins or triplets! There are 71 kids here who are a part of a multiple group.

The Hulbert triplets, high school seniors, talk about the benefits to being triplets. "You always have two friends that you can go to."

The Wood twins, in the ninth grade, sum up one of the main drawbacks. "People mess your name up."

No one seems to know why there are so many Ida multiples but the Mack twins, the Dodd twins, the Hale twins all have theories: "I have no clue. " "The water. "The water."

And though they're part of a pair or trio, they want people to know they are individuals. One twin says, "Like I never wear pink and she always does." Another twin told us, "I probably like cheerleading more and she likes track more."

And to add to the twin Twilight Zone feeling at Ida, three teachers gave birth this year -- all to twins.

The Ida Blue Streaks go marching -- two by two and three by three -- and while it can be confusing at times, it mostly it means the bonds are two and three times stronger between these students.
