20-foot waves crash Lake Michigan shoreline

October 1, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
Big waves and high winds created a danger zone along Lake Michigan, from Chicago to northwest Indiana.

Waves up to 20 feet high crashed into the shoreline on Friday, accompanied by 60 mph winds that battered some neighborhoods. The winds knocked down the facade of a lakeside home.

Paths along the lake were closed but some joggers, cyclists and Michigan surfers still tried their luck testing the menacing waves.

Conditions improved at night.
