April 17, 2012 12:00:00 AM PDT
Angelina Jolie has been appointed as a special envoy for the U.N. refugee agency.

This comes as a promotion for the actress, who was a Goodwill ambassador for the U.N. and has worked on refugee causes for a decade now.

The actress will focus on complex refugee crises in countries like Afghanistan and Somalia. She will also represent the agency at the diplomatic level.

Such posts are usually held by career diplomats or retired politicians.
