You can use credit cards and mobile phones to pay at the smart meters, which will still take coins as well.
But there is one big change - sensors in the parking spaces will reset the meter every time a car moves. That means if someone pays for more time than they use, the next driver won't be able to use it.
The sensors will mean both more income and more data on parking patterns for the city.
