The incident happened in the parking lot of a store in the 2200 block of East Lincoln Avenue.
Police said he stole the woman's purse as she was getting into her car on Tuesday night. She fell down during the robbery and broke her hip. She was transported to an area hospital, where she had to undergo surgery.
The suspect was captured on a security camera. Police described him as a Hispanic man in his 20s, nearly 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball-style cap, a plaid shirt and blue jeans. He fled in a green compact car.
