A standoff in East Los Angeles has ended, but authorities are still looking for the suspect they thought was inside.

Authorities responded to the 1100 block of North Alma Avenue just before 1 a.m. Wednesday. They were called by a woman who said her adult son was possibly suicidal. There was also a report of a gunshot before deputies arrived.

Investigators surrounded the home but were not able to make contact with the man. Some nearby homes have been evacuated as a precaution.

A SWAT team eventually threw tear gas canisters into the house at about 8:45 a.m. and entered the home, but the man was not there.

The tear gas canisters started a small fire at the house that was quickly knocked down.

If you have any information regarding this incident, you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or (800) 222-8477.
