Japan is giving California and other west coast states $5 million to help pay for removing and disposing debris from the devastating tsunami two years ago.

The California coastline sustained damage from high waves triggered by that tsunami.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the clean-up money will also be dispersed to Oregon, Washington and Alaska.

The March 2011 tsunami killed nearly 19,000 people in Japan and displaced 300,000 others.
