IE schools on alert after suspicious man offers underage girls ride

April 30, 2013 12:00:00 AM PDT
The Riverside Unified School District has sent out a warning to parents after two students were approached by strangers Monday.

The first incident occurred near the intersection of David Street and Marguerita Avenue around 6:45 a.m.

Officials said a black SUV approached a young girl who was on her way to Gage Middle School and offered her a ride. The girl quickly fled and ran into a friend's house nearby.

About 20 minutes later, a late model white 2-door Toyota truck approached a second girl near Jane Street and Lincoln Avenue and attempted to strike a conversation. The student called her mother on her cell phone and the truck drove off.

The suspect in both incidents was described as a Hispanic male with short curly hair and a mustache. It is unclear if the incidents are related.

The investigation is ongoing. But school district officials are asking parents to keep an eye out for suspicious people and to remind kids to be aware of their surroundings.
