San Diego Gas & Electric wants to recover its investment in the San Onofre plant by collecting money from customers, and Southern California Edison acknowledges that it may do the same.

San Onofre was formally retired in June after it was shut down in 2012 because of a radiation leak.

State regulators are evaluating whether San Diego Gas & Electric can turn to customers to recover its more than $800 million investment.

Southern California Edison is first tapping insurers, as well as Mitsubishi, whose defective equipment prompted the closure. But, the power utility has not discarded turning to customers as well.
