LAUSD board to hold special election to fill LaMotte vacancy

LOS ANGELES

The board voted 4-2 Tuesday to hold a special election to fill the seat left by Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte, who died Dec. 5.

The vote took place after nearly 100 speakers shared thoughts on whether to appoint a replacement or elect one. The vote also means the district's legal team will suggest options for interim representation of Board District 1 during next week's meeting.

The board expressed preference for the primary election to take place June 3.

LaMotte died while attending an education conference in San Diego. She was 80.
