The child, identified as Ryan Cruz Saldana of South Pasadena, was hit at 6:18 p.m. near the intersection of Alta Loma Drive and Garnet Street.
Paramedics pronounced Saldana dead at the scene. Police said he was struck by a white 2006 Dodge Ram pickup.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into what happened.
