A 26-year-old man was shot to death in Arleta on Thanksgiving, and his killer remains at large.

ARLETA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 26-year-old man was shot to death at his mother's home in Arleta on Thanksgiving, and his killer remains at large.

Los Angeles police received a report about an assault with a deadly weapon at the 14200 block of Gager Street around 8:20 p.m.

Responding officers found the victim unconscious, not breathing and suffering from a gunshot wound in a back bedroom of a residence, said LAPD Detective Dave Peteque.

CPR was administered but was not successful. The victim, who was later identified as Steven Tang from Arleta, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon investigation, detectives learned that Tang was confronted by the suspect while inside the home. A possible physical altercation occurred, at which time the suspect fatally shot Tang.

Detectives said that the shooting was a "targeted crime." They also said it does not appear that Tang and the suspect knew each other.

Neighbor Leslie Herrera said that some residents had earlier seen two men quietly drive up to the home, possibly in a Honda.

"They said when they drove up, they had no lights. It was already dark, so it was already suspicious," Herrera said.

Tang's mother and uncle were also in the house at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

It was a horrific scene witnessed by family members. Tang had been visiting his mother at the home, which she shares with other family members who fled -- some with toddlers in their arms.

"It's scary because it could happen to any of us. Thank God I wasn't here because I would have been freaking out," Herrera added.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any relevant information about this incident, you're urged to contact Detective Peteque at (818) 374-1934. You can also submit anonymous tips to Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
