MONROVIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Monrovia police discovered a woman's body inside a car behind her family's Monrovia home on Sunday, prompting an investigation.
The body was found at the home in the 200 block of Mauna Loa Drive after the family of the victim's boyfriend asked authorities to check on her well-being.
"The family received some information that they believed to be credible, and it was some cause for concern," said Lt. Steve Jauch with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
When police arrived, the boyfriend was in the backyard of the home. He was detained as a person of interest.
Homicide investigators said the coroner will have to determine how the woman died.
Neighbors say the woman's father owns the home, but she and her boyfriend had been living out of her car.
Next door neighbor Stu Roy said he'd talked to them about locking their bikes to the stop sign and parking in front of his house. Roy said the couple appeared to have some mental illness.
"She carried on a conversation with three other people and myself, all at the same time. She would turn and answer imaginary people," he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
