Bear eats cat food in Devore family's backyard

DEVORE, Calif. (KABC) -- A family in Devore came home to find a bear hanging around in their pool area.

The bear found a metal trash can where the family kept cat food. The large animal ripped the lid off, knocked over the container and ate the cat food inside.

The family said they called Fish and Game officials and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, but they were told there was nothing authorities could do unless the bear posed a safety risk.
