Dogs, sheepherding helping veterans suffering from PTSD

ACTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Local veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder are getting help dealing with their illness by bonding with dogs and teaching the four-legged animals to herd sheep. The herding classes are offered at Drummond Ranch in Acton.

Janna Duncan created "K9s to Confidence" about a year ago, and says the program brings immediate relief to PTSD sufferers.

Jesse, a war veteran who suffers from PTSD, says he doesn't like talking about his illness, but that the ranch helps him deal with his stress.

"This battle in your head, it really frights you," he said. "It's tough."
