DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday. A driver has been taken into custody.

Authorities say the incident happened at Seventh Street and Towne Avenue at 5:46 a.m. A man in his 60s was crossing 7th Street against a "Don't Walk" signal when he was hit by a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The man was declared dead at the scene.

The driver, identified as Jesus Reynosa of Monterey Park, made a U-turn to return to the scene.

"He stopped approximately 20 feet from the body and then elected to flee," the LAPD said in a statement.

Reynosa was located a few blocks away and taken into custody.

No further information was immediately available. The hit-and-run remains under investigation.
