DURHAM, N.C. -- The North Carolina Department of Health says a traveler from Liberia at Duke University Hospital has tested negative for the Ebola virus.

The department was closely monitoring the traveler, who developed a fever Sunday, one day after arriving in Person County.

The individual did not have any symptoms upon arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport on Oct. 31, according to the Department of Health, and had no known exposure to Ebola while in Liberia.

The person traveled by commercial bus from Newark to Durham, and was picked up by family and taken to Person County. The individual was taken from Person County using the appropriate health and safety protocols, according to the Department of Health.

The traveler was placed in a contained, isolated and secured unit until the test results were known.
