Victim of East LA deputy-involved shooting identified

EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles County coroners has released the name of a 21-year-old man killed in a deputy-involved shooting early Sunday morning in East L.A.

Deputies fatally shot Anthony Vargas after confronting him in connection with an armed robbery near the Nueva Maravilla Housing Community on Colonia De Las Magnolias.

Investigators say Vargas "attempted to arm himself" with a handgun before deputies opened fire.
