Erin Brockovich, Gardena residents consider filing lawsuit for dirty, black water

GARDENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Erin Brockovich, the famed consumer advocate, is not happy and has joined Gardena residents to urge water officials to look into the murky, black tap water that has been oozing out of faucets in the city.

"I would not drink that, or bathe in that if you paid me," she said.

Brockovich will be holding a community meeting Thursday to gather affected residents for a possible lawsuit against the water provider Golden State Water Company.

Resident Tom Christmas said he was tired of "playing" with the water company.

He, like other residents, have not seen much improvement in the water quality since the sludge was first brought to the water company's attention in February.

Golden State Water officials said they have ben flushing out the lines in the hopes of cleaning out whatever is in the system, but brown filters still found in the system are proof that something remains in the water.

"You are a municipality and it is your duty and your obligation to provide the public with safe drinking water," Brockovich said.

The meeting will be held at the Gardena Elks Lodge on West 162nd Street from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
