George Clooney to receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at 2015 Golden Globes

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- George Clooney will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards.

Clooney's acting achievements and humanitarian efforts helped him nab the award. The Cecil B. DeMille Award is given out each year to entertainers in film who have made notable contributions on and off screen.

Clooney is a 12-time Golden Globe nominee in nine categories. He is also a two-time Oscar winner and has been nominated in six different categories. With that, he claims the most nominations in more categories than anyone else in Oscar history. He has also received four Emmy nods, four SAG Awards, a BAFTA Award and two Critics' Choice Awards.

In addition to his long list of acting achievements, Clooney created the organization Not On Our Watch with fellow actors Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and film producer Jerry Weintraub in 2007. The group works to gather resources and call attention to atrocities in Darfur, Africa. He was also chosen as a peace ambassador for the U.N. in 2008, and he produced the Help Haiti Now! telethon, which raised more than $66 million.

Clooney follows in the footsteps of past Cecil B. DeMille Award winners, including Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Robin Williams and Barbra Streisand.

The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, Jan. 11.
