SAN FRANCISCO -- Golden Gate Bridge officials are renewing talk of charging a sidewalk toll for people who walk or bike across the bridge.

The Marin Independent Journal reports sidewalk access fees for bikes and pedestrians would help the bridge district deal with a $33 million deficit.

There is no word yet how much the toll might be, but if approved, it would take effect in 2017. Officials considered a sidewalk toll 10 years ago, but backed away following protests by bike groups.
