Small plane crashes near home in Hemet
A small plane crashed near a house in Hemet Monday morning, coming dangerously close to slamming into the residence.

HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- A small plane crashed into the backyard of a house in Hemet Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 9:35 a.m. when authorities received reports stating a plane had crashed into a home near the intersection of Warren Road and Mustang Way.

The Hemet Police Department, Hemet Fire Department, CAL FIRE and Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire caused by the crash, authorities said.

Witness video showed large plumes of smoke from the wreckage billowing to the sky after the plane crashed.

The pilot is said to be a male that was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

AIR7 HD captured the scene, showing the small plane had ripped through a field before crashing into the wall of the backyard of the house.

The front end of the cockpit appeared to be completely destroyed.

Residents were at home at the time of the crash, and they did not sustain any injuries, according to authorities.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson released the following statement: "An unknown type of aircraft crashed into a residential backyard near Hemet, Calif., at around 9:40 a.m. local time Tuesday. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates"

After investigators verify the aircraft registration number, the FAA will release it on its website.
