Huntington Beach police shoot, kill man near pier
An allegedly armed man who was shot by Huntington Beach police has died, authorities confirmed Saturday.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- An allegedly armed man who was shot by Huntington Beach police has died, authorities confirmed Saturday.

The shooting occurred around 3:15 p.m., according to the Huntington Beach Police Department, just south of the city's pier as the U.S. Open of Surfing was underway nearby. Police said they had received reports about a "suspicious man with a gun" in the area.

"The suspect was non-compliant to the multiple commands given and an officer involved shooting occurred," the department said in a press release.

It's unclear how many officers opened fire and how many shots were fired. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing several shots.

The adult Hispanic man was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police say a gun was recovered at the scene.
